In everyday life, wristwatches are subject to high stresses which unfortunately often leave their traces. From the very beginning, Damasko has set itself the goal of manufacturing watches that withstand the stresses of everyday life and do not give away the age of the watch for many years to come.
The DAMEST® coating represents a further innovation. It protects the watch by its special structure like no other coating and does so while maintaining its usual perfect appearance. The special character of the DAMEST® coating lies in its multi-layer composition. Its foundation is the basic material of martensitic stainless steel with a hardness of about 740 HV.
This ensures a stable and impact-resistant base, which is necessary to prevent subsequent breaking of the layer under stress. An ion implantation zone of about 1.5 microns thickness and 1500HV hardness is created as an intermediate layer which acts as an anchoring of the multi-layer coating on the base material and reliably prevents spalling.
The outer layer forms an approximately 7μm strong and 2500HV hard multilayer coating which is applied in the PACVD process. Multilayer coating means that several different layers of coating are applied, which not only effect an enormous hardness and high resistance to surface scratching when combined, but also impart a certain elasticity due to the properties of the individual layers of the coating so as to be able to compensate for shocks to some extent.
